Maureen C. McNamara
(director, producer)
Maureen McNamara is a multi-media artist working in Houston. In addition to her work on Hot Town, Cool City, Maureen is the mother of a 5-year-old daughter, paints and does video work, she also works with her Architect husband on development projects, and teaches art at the Museum of Fine Arts-Houston, Glassell Jr. School. Maureen is on the film committee for the MFA-H, is on the Board for Aurora Picture Show, and works on a committee to improve the film industry in Houston.

In her past life Maureen worked for Landmark Theatres for 22 years. Former Director of Operations-Central for Landmark, Maureen was responsible for half of the company’s 72 locations, and for new Business Development—responsible for opening theatres in all new markets across the country. Maureen also co-developed nine twenty-minute professional quality video projects with the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) for theatre owners across the country.

Maureen holds a BA in Studio Art from University of St. Thomas and is currently with New York University in the Masters Program in Studio Art—Venice.

Jaroslav Vodehnal

Jaroslav Vodehnal is an established, award-winning cinematographer and director of photography. He has worked on several feature films, documentaries, and television shows, and on various commercials and industrial projects. His work experience spans the last 35 years. His education consists of a B.A. in Communications from the University of Houston and a PhD in work experience.

Jaroslav believes that the story is the most important part of a film and that any audio or camera work that distracts the audience from the story is evil at best. He strives for a realistic and credible look to his lighting but is not above stylistic effects if the script calls for it.

Julye Newlin

Julye Newlin is an award-winning lighting director and videographer with over 10 years of experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Motion Picture and Video Technology from Brook’s Institute of Photography.

Ms. Newlin has experience with 16mm film, video, digital video, HD and various formats in still photography (35mm, 120mm, and 4x5). She has won several awards for her moving images, including Telly Awards, Technical Achievement Awards, Videographer Awards, and Professional Photographers of America Certificate of Merit Awards. Ms. Newlin is a member of the Society of Operating Cameramen.

Julye’s first job out of film school was working for NASA in Houston, Texas, as a film editor, cinematographer and researcher. She filmed astronaut training, edited 16mm media resource clips for use by the national media during space shuttle missions, and researched media requests for historical footage from the NASA Archives. Julye Newlin Productions, Inc. was subsequently established in 1993.

Ms. Newlin has also taught numerous video production classes during her career, at both Texas A&M University and Episcopal High School. In addition, she has held seminars in conjunction with “Indie Slate” magazine to encourage young filmmakers to tell their stories with DV cameras.

Bill Williams

Bill Williams was born in 1956 in Miami, FL. He moved to the Houston area in 1966. He is married to Cathy and together they have three children: Austin 14, Max 9, and Maddie 9. Bill started in broadcast at KTRE in Lufkin, TX in 1976. He moved back to Houston in 1978 and became involved in remote sports production. Bill mixed both small and large shows for ABC, CBS, NBC, and ESPN. He has won two Emmys. One for the 1988 Olympics in Calgary and one for the 1996 games in Atlanta. Local production and news has kept Bill busy for the last decade. Clients include ABC News, NBC News, the BBC, and The World Wildlife Fund.

John Carrithers

John Carrithers is currently the Creative Director-Editorial for Anime Network, a television network created by ADV Films, the largest distributor of Japanese animation in the United States. His work includes editing on-air promotions for the network, as well as the creation of a new television series, DVD Dojo. Carrithers edited projects for numerous Houston clients such as the Houston Astros, Houston’s Alley Theatre, The Art Guys, NewType Magazine, Continental Airlines, and Shell Oil. Carrithers moved to Houston in 1999 after serving as an Editor in Miami for USA Network’s magazine television show Ocean Drive. He hails from southern Arizona, where he also worked as an editor on the film projects Acts of Violence, Open Arms, and Learning to Drive for CinemaVista Moving Pictures.

Dawn-Jackie Madison aka: “Madison”

Madison was born in Los Angeles and came to Texas as soon as possible. She completed a year-long internship at Houston Media Source. Her duties included being a camerawoman and soundwoman for several live and tape programs. She produced, directed and edited her own shorts including “She’s My Auntie” and “Storytelling Tales”, which have aired on cable. Madison accepted the position working on “Hot Town Cool City” as a way to build her professional experience.

David Chien is a designer, illustrator, programmer, and interactive installation artist based in Houston. He regularly posts to NAKEDGREMLIN! and loves creating and developing user driven sites. A sampling of his online installations/experiences can be seen in places like Spamgraffiti, The Story of [fill in the blank], and the Adopt-a-Gremlin project.
