Char Bar has a unique texture and feeling like no other place in the world. You will find people from every race, religion, socioeconomic class, sexuality and sexual preference represented equally here. Char is the only place in Houston where you might walk in during the day and find a billionaire getting measured for a suit, a lawyer drinking her lunch and a city prosecuter sneaking his. You will find a 350 pound man making two judges laugh as they get their shoes shined. You may find a bum asking for bus fare, a famous rapper with his crew or professional athletes discussing strategy with their agents. A divorce party fueling up, a celebration of a Venture Capital funding out of control or a “sorry you’re going to prison” party” on any given night. Most imporatanly, you will certainly find a member of the friendly family owned business (the Shapiro’s since the 1930’s) ready to help you with whatever you want, as long as you aren’t an a**hole. FHM magazine voted it “Houston’s Coolest Downtown Bar” recently— I vote it home. (2006-05-01 18:15:57) |
