In 1945, Frank “Papa” Azzarelli opened Azzarelli’s Spaghetti House - the first Italian Restaurant in Houston. It was about time Houston had its very own Italian eatery. The city was ready for authentic Italian cuisine and the food was so good it even caught the eye of celebrity stars, Marilyn Monroe and Bob Hope.

In eight years, we have never had a bad meal at Azzarelli’s(Eldridge or Memorial locations). I have found that people who do not like the food are more use to cain style Italian food and the better menu’s(like Franks are high end in taste. Also the portions are huge—more generous then most places.. (2008-08-23 16:28:37) |

You’ve GOT to be kidding! My food was so-so and definitely not worth the price we had to pay and the ambiance was terrible, dark and dreary. It basically sucked and we won’t go back. (2006-04-24 14:22:10) |

Azzerelli’s is a tiny Italian restaurant/caterer in Memorial. The chef is Frank Triola who has been the Rockets chef. The menu is not extensive, but always good and features some heart healthy options. Not listed but almost always a special is the Osso Bucco. But here’s the best part, although they don’t serve wine, there is no corkage for bringing in your own bottle. Consequently the place is usually packed with folks eating dinner and enjoying some very nice wine from their own cellar’s. It’s a cork dork’s heaven. (2005-02-10 18:52:12) |
